재건축이 이루어질 한 가정집 내부 전체를 비닐로 싸매며, 사라져 가는 공간에 대한 염(殮)으로서, 개인 혹은 사회 속의 기억과 흔적을 품은 공간을 보내기 위한 준비를 하였다. 한 달 뒤면 재건축이 이루어질 서울 강서구 등촌동의 한 연립주택은 40여 년의 지난 역사를 뒤로하고 모두가 이사를 떠난 텅 빈 곳이 되었다. 건물은 홀로 남아 떠난 사람과 물건들 그리고 그 곱절의 시간을 돌이켜 보며 마지막을 맞이하고 있었고, 이사를 떠난 사람들에 이어 보이지 않는 어딘가로 이사를 준비하고 있다고 느꼈다. 나는 한 가정집 내부 전체를 꽁꽁 싸매며 사라져 가는 공간들에 대한 염(殮)과 같이 공간을 보내기 위한 준비를 했고, 마침내 정성스레 싸인 공간은 이제 어딘 가로의 이사를 준비하며 관객의 걸음걸음마다 이어지는 바스락거리는 순간과 함께 지난 긴 세월 공간이 품어온 삶의 기억과 흔적을 형상화 하였다.
The entire interior of a home to be reconstructed was wrapped in plastic, and as a memorial to the disappearing space, preparations were made to preserve a space containing memories and traces of individuals or society. A row house in Deungchon-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, which will be rebuilt in a month, has become an empty place as everyone has moved out, leaving behind 40 years of history. The building was facing its end, looking back on the people and things that had left and the times that had passed, and it felt like it was preparing to move somewhere unseen following the people who had moved out. I wrapped up the entire inside of a house and prepared to let the space go as if I was mourning the disappearance of spaces. Finally, the space that was carefully wrapped is now ready to move to somewhere else, rustling with each step of the audience. The distance symbolizes the moments and the memories and traces of life that the space has harbored over the past long years.
